Garry Monk discusses Birmingham City links with out of favour Derby County winger

The Mirror reported on Thursday evening that Birmingham City were considering a loan move for Derby County winger Ikechi Anya.

Upon the emergence of the links, Birmingham City boss Garry Monk has had his say on the links with Scottish winger Anya.

“Of course I know the player,” he told BirminghamLive.

“When you look at the list we’re looking at….It’s a difficult one. That’s just speculation if it’s come from anywhere.

“There’s nothing concrete or imminent at this moment in time. If anything does become imminent or concrete then you’ll know about it. But at this moment there’s nothing really to be said about anything.”

When he was asked if he was interested in Derby County winger Anya, Monk replied: “Every player that is on that list is of interest.”

The Blues are currently under a transfer embargo for breaching financial fair play rules, but are allowed to sign one player on loan, providing that his wages are under £10,000-a-week.

Ikechi Anya is believed to be on The Blues’ radar after falling way down the pecking order under Frank Lampard. The Scot has not made one appearance under Lampard after only playing 11 times in all competitions in the previous campaign.

Lampard said to the Derby Telegraph that The Rams could look to loan the winger out with first team opportunities hard to come by at Pride Park.

“Kechi is fit. He trains with the under-23s, at the moment, and that is it,” Lampard said.

“He has to keep training, and keep playing when he has got the opportunity, and look at what he wants to do for the future, as well.

“Obviously he hasn’t played (for the first-team this season), and we all know that, so I think January will be a decision for him whether he wants to go and play football.”
