Middlesbrough target moving closer to Ipswich exit door

Ipswich Town left-back Jonas Knudsen is reportedly edging closer to the exit door this transfer window according to the East Anglian Daily Times, with Middlesbrough in pole position to sign the defender.

Ipswich announced the signing of Callum Elder on a short-term loan from Premier League side Leicester City, and could be their number one choice at left-back between now and the end of the season.

Jonas Knudsen has lost his place in the side in recent weeks to youngster Myles Kenlock, and with the signing of Elder, the Danish defender could be on his way out of the club as early as this month. His contract is up at the end of the season, and Ipswich boss Paul Lambert will be hoping they can cash in on the player before his contract expires.

He joined the Tractor Boys for just £300,000 in 2015 from Esbjerg fB in his native Denmark, and is now valued at around £1.5 million according to TransferMarkt.com. Middlesbrough will be hoping to sign the player for a fee around this estimation to give competition to captain George Friend.

Having sold Fabio da Silva in the summer, Middlesbrough were lacking in numbers at full-back and brought in Southampton’s Sam McQueen on a season long loan as cover. However, the Saints defender suffered a season ending injury against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, meaning Friend is the only out-and-out left-back at the club.

Knudsen is a player that is interesting Tony Pulis at Boro, and Ipswich manager Lambert has confirmed the defender “might move” this transfer window.
