Sunderland, Bradford City and Portsmouth keen on Celtic defender

League One trio Sunderland, Bradford City and Portsmouth are all keen on Celtic defender Jack Hendry, according to the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Celtic and is likely to leave the Scottish Premier League champions on loan this month for more first-team action.

Hendry, who has made three caps for the Scotland national team so far in his career, has played just three times in the league for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season.

His availability has alerted the likes of Sunderland, Bradford and Portsmouth in the third tier.

Sunderland boss, Jack Ross, has delved into the Scottish market before to land talent and could be tempted to use his knowledge to bring Hendry to the Stadium of Light on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.

Portsmouth are also being linked. Pompey are currently top of League One and looking in good shape to get back to the Championship this season.

Bradford are the final side to be credited with an interest in Hendry. They have seen an upturn in form recently under David Hopkin and have managed to climb out of the bottom three.

Hendry has played in England before. He signed for Wigan Athletic in 2015 after impressing for Partick Thistle but only made three appearances for the Latics and was shipped out on loan to Shrewsbury Town and MK Dons.

He moved back to Scotland with Dundee in July 2014 before he was snapped up by Celtic a year later. A move back to England now looks likely for Hendry.
