Leeds United transfer news – journalist with two interesting comments

Leeds United very rarely make great splashes in the January transfer window, seemingly more content to paddle in the ripples.

However, with Marcelo Bielsa running with a very lean squad, and with injury absences beginning to tell, there are fan views that something needs to be done.

Prior January windows have brought little to enthuse Leeds fans of late. These fans expect very little, but expectations that action is done this January are raised at the moment.

Not only are there injuries to consider, but there’s also the fact that the Whites are riding the crest of the Sky Bet Championship wave and topping the table.

Whilst not expecting wholesale arrivals, there are injured players at various points of coming back to the fold, fans are expecting reinforcements to the core of the side.

Whilst it is only the second day of the transfer window, there are rumblings that the Whites are ‘interested’ in players. For example, German media outlet Bild has said that the Whites are ‘interested’ in Swiss international Steve Zuber – something that we’ve written about at length here on The72.

Then, after another display where some are saying that #1 goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell was less than convincing, there’s the question of the goalkeeping positions at the club needing reinforcing. At the moment, the stopper safety net below Peacock-Farrell consists of youngster Will Huffer.

Leeds Transfer needs discussed – Phil Hay comments

In a thread on Twitter, respected Leeds United authority Phil Hay, of the Yorkshire Evening Post, has his say on the above two instances.

Hay’s comment here indicates that the ‘interest’ in Swiss international Zuber goes beyond the flash-in-the-pan news that was seemingly indicated by Bild’s short piece. The fact the Whites have been looking at him [Zuber] “for a while” shows, at the very least, that Leeds United are taking a considered approach.

The conversation then moves on to the goalkeeping situation at Elland Road.

The fact that Hay here mentions “that depends on price” when commenting on Darlow does seem to indicate that if Leeds get the Newcastle stopper, then he’s likely to come in as #1. If price is an issue, then you wouldn’t be shelling out big bucks for a bench warmer.

Even though it is only two days in to the January transfer window, it is bound to be a window that holds some surprises for Whites fans. Hopefully.
