Tony Pulis confirms Middlesbrough striker is in talks with Spanish side ahead of move

Middlesbrough striker Martin Braithwaite is set to leave the club after just 18 months on Teesside. The Danish international has been in talks with another side, believed to be Leganes in Spain.

Speaking after Middlesbrough’s away draw with Derby County, Boro boss Tony Pulis confirmed that Braithwaite is in talks, and is likely to be sold this January transfer window.

The forward spent six months out on loan last season, leaving last January to join French side Bordeaux, with his performances earning him a place in the Danish set up for the World Cup in Russia.

“I haven’t had a lot of time with him,” said Pulis. “I had about two or three weeks with Martin before he went (out on loan to Bordeaux) last year and four or five months this year so I haven’t had a lot of time but good luck to him.”

Braithwaite reportedly wanted to leave Middlesbrough in the summer window, with Leganes one of a number of sides interested, along with Alaves and Girona, also in La Liga.

“He wanted to go in the summer, we didn’t want him to go” said Pulis, “but he’s now got his move I think. They are still talking I believe.”

The Teessiders have brought in one signing already this transfer window, with the arrival of Rajiv van La Parra from Huddersfield Town on a short-term loan. Pulis has also identified the need to bring in more players, and with Braithwaite’s exit, it would free up vital space on the wage bill, with the Dane earning a reported £50,000 a week.
