Leeds United started 2019 off with a disappointing performance at the City Ground, falling to a 4-2 New Years Day defeat against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday afternoon.
Nottingham Forest got the better of Leeds United on Tuesday afternoon in a rollercoaster clash at the City Ground on New Years Day, defeating Marcelo Bielsa’s side 4-2.
Forest midfielder Jack Colback capitalised on Adam Forshaw’s poor backpass to put Karanka’s side 1-0 up after just five minutes. It went from bad to worse just before the break when Leeds man Kalvin Phillips was sent off for a lunging tackle on midfielder Adlene Guedioura.
After the break, United turned the game around, much to the shock of Whites fans. Jack Clarke came on at half time for Jack Harrison and made an instant impact. The young star levelled the scores seven minutes after the break, before Ezgjan Alioski fired home to put Leeds United 2-1 up with just over 25 minutes gone.
Then, it was Nottingham Forest’s turn to flip the game on its head. Only five minutes after Alioski’s goal, Jack Colback picked up his second goal of the game to equalize. Three minutes later, Daryl Murphy restored Forest’s lead, heading past Bailey Peacock-Farrell with 18 minutes to go.
Second half substitute Ben Osborn then secured all three points with an impressive finish to lift some pressure of the shoulders of Karanka.
The win brings Forest up to 7th, four points behind 6th place rivals Derby County in the last Championship Play-Off spot. Leeds remain top of the table, two points ahead of Norwich City who drew 1-1 with Brentford.
After the game, Leeds fans took to Twitter to discuss the game, pointing fingers at two players.

10 goals conceded in the last 4 games, having only faced 13 shots on target in that period… Says a lot, I'm afraid.

Forshaw looked tired today gave the ball away too easily and out of position on occasion , luckily results went our way today. Still top! Go again and "KEEP FIGHTING"

Great fight back with 10men. Forshaw and BPF jokes today cost us points with there errors. Both need dropping.

Good fighting spirit shown to go in front but was always gonna be hard with 10 men. Still top and lost 2 in a row after winning 7 in a row yet doom and gloomers think we're imploding and falling apart again? Behave.#MOT
