Aston Villa shock news – striker will ask for loan termination

According to Mike McGrath, writing in The Sun, Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham is set to ask Chelsea to terminate his loan deal at the Midlands club.

In doing so, two things will likely happen. Premier League clubs will be put on DefCon5 alert by his goal-scoring threat. Also, Villa’s fortunes could take a massive nosedive.

McGrath says in his article that Abraham is asking Chelsea to “activate a recall option” in his temporary deal at Aston Villa so that he can “pursue a loan move at a Premier League club for the second half of the season.”

Clubs who missed out on Dominic Solanke, who is heading to Crystal Palace from Liverpool, will be lining up to take the Chelsea hotshot on loan for the 2019 run-in to the current Premier League campaign.

Amongst these teams are the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and strugglers Huddersfield Town and Fulham. This quartet of top-tier sides need that shot in the arm that a goal-scorer like Abraham brings.

More worryingly, though, is the hole that he would leave at Aston Villa should his request for a recall be granted by Chelsea. The young England striker has scored 14 goals for The Villans and provided one assist. This total includes FOUR goals in a 5-5 draw against Nottingham Forest in late-November.

Losing Abraham, and his goal threat, would severely dent Aston Villa’s hopes of progressing from their current 9th spot in the league. Dean Smith’s side sit five points shy of the play-offs, a large part of this down to Abraham’s contribution.

Losing the free-scoring forward that he is could force Villa to use the January market to sign a replacement. they do have strikers Jonathan Kodjia (six goals) and Scott Hogan available, but they haven’t provided that élite level of goal treat that Abraham carries.
