Arsenal and Tottenham in £15m arm wrestle over Norwich starlet

Tottenham won’t have it all their own way in their reported interest in Norwich starlet Max Aarons, their North London neighbours Arsenal joining them in a £15m arm wrestle for the young defender according to The Mirror’s Tom Hopkinson.

Youngster Aarons, in his breakthrough season at Carrow Road, signed up at Norwich after coming through the Luton Town youth system. After promotion to the Under-23 last season, he’s taken the step-up to the first team in his stride.

The Mirror’s Hopkinson says that the “£15million-rated youngster” has shone in the opening half of Norwich’s 2018/19 Championship campaign. It is this glow that has led to the fact that “the two North London giants are among clubs at home and abroad who are keen to take him.”

Hopkinson says that Spurs are “in the boxseat” in the chase, relegating Arsenal to riding shotgun, but there is one catch for both sides to consider. This catch is that Norwich will insist that the winning bidder loan the youngster back for the rest of the Championship season.

This season Aarons has been something of a revelation for the Canaries, featuring in 20 of their Sky Bet Championship games so far. This score of league appearances has seen him score twice and provide three assists. He also added a goal against Premier League Cardiff City in a 3-1 Carabao Cup win.

Whatever happens, it will be an interesting January transfer window for Norwich and their fans. Should Aarons continue to develop as he is doing, then Premier League interest can only go one way – and that way is up.
