Peterborough United returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, defeating Accrington Stanley 4-0 at the Wham Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Another inspiring performance from in form striker Ivan Toney helped Posh return to winning ways, as Posh’s promotion push faltered over the past few weeks.
The former Newcastle United striker bagged another hat trick to take his tally to 16 for this season, and defender Rhys Bennett followed up on Marcus Maddison’s free kick to send the travelling Posh faithful home happy.
Posh boss Steve Evans opted for a change of system, putting winger Siriki Dembele up front with Toney, giving him some more flexibility throughout the game. The Scot has come under fire from fans in recent weeks, but insisted prior to the game that criticism has only made him more determined – and he certainly followed that up today.
Posh fans were over the moon with the result, as Steve Evans’ side returned to winning ways.
That’s more like it! 🔥🔥 cracking performance and result, sets up the New Year’s Day game and rest of 2019 perfectly. Not to mention the return of a certain someone 👀 #pufc

Is an Evans hater going to praise the style of football, result and tactics today then? #pufc pic.twitter.com/RHGPgqZoqN

Hope those haters give Evans credit today for changing the system and playing Woodward higher up. Yes it’s been very boring or late and far too many draws but we’re in the pack. Let’s hope they do everything they can to stay there! #pufc

Good to end this year on a high footballing wise. Made a statement thrashing an inform side sat 9th at the start of the day, and without reply. Time to sort out our home form and restore confidence all round. #pufc
