“I do not know” – Aitor Karanka unsure about Nottingham Forest future after Millwall defeat

Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has admitted that he does not know what the future holds after losing 1-0 to Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

Nottingham Forest are winless in five Championship games and have dropped to 10th place in the Championship table. Aitor Karanka’s side are sitting on 36 points after 25 games, six points behind rivals Derby County in the last of four Championship Play-Off spots.

With Nottingham Forest’s form faltering, manager Aitor Karanka is under serious pressure and reports and circulating that he is on the brink of the sack.

After his side’s loss to Millwall on Saturday, Karanka spoke to the Nottingham Post regarding his future, admitting that he is unsure what the future holds for him a the City Ground.

“I say always the same message and the first message from me was that I wanted to make this crowd proud of their team,” Karanka said.

“I think they are proud of their team, because they travel to away games and come to home games – I think they are proud of their team.”

With his position under serious threat, he was asked whether he will be in charge for his game against Leeds United on New Years Day.

“I do not know.

“The only thing I know, after this game and after every game is that I am really pleased with this group of players and with the club.

“I want to say thanks for their support and we just need to keep going together, because when I came here, my message has been always the same – when I arrived, I arrived to a project in the same way as a I did at Middlesbrough.

“I had two-and-a-half years to achieve what we did there and I arrived here in the same way.

“I am working and trying to do my best; trying to be honest and to put this club where it belongs.

“The only thing I know is that I signed here for a two-and-a-half years, for a project. I built a squad to do the first step and that is the only thing I know so far.

“I think I have what it takes to take Forest into the Premier League, during that two-and-a-half years, because after six months we were three points below the play-off positions.

“We have the transfer market coming up and the team is improving every week, with the exception of today. We compete against every team, so I am really positive because I believe we are in a good way.

“I have been involved in football for 25 years, so I am not surprised by anything. Or at least almost not by anything.

“My target is to work here for many years and the target is why I signed here; I signed here because I had a project in front of me, that I would have two-and-a-half years to achieve.”
