Leeds United face one simple decision after Hull City

Leeds United went into today’s game at Elland Road on the back of a seven-game winning streak. Hull City ended that with a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Linked with the Whites earlier in the week, it was Jarrod Bowen who was their downfall, his neatly taken brace proving the difference between the two Yorkshire sides.

Hull were tidy and workmanlike on the ball, their running with the ball stretching Leeds United at times. This proved to be an excellent tactic, it was from quickfire raids like these that the Tigers profited with Bowen’s two goals.

At the end of the day, and despite manufacturing a host of chances, United weren’t really at the races. Taking nothing away from an improving Hull City, it was a disappointing defeat for Leeds, and their fans, to take.

It was only the second time the Whites have been beaten at home this season, only the fourth time overall. Yet, beaten they were and it is something that will need to be righted come 2019 and the hard trawl towards the end of the campaign.

Whilst all the hard decisions need to be made, there is one simple, very easy decision that has made itself – start Jack Clark.

Forget the ‘start Lewis Baker/Jack Harrison’ arguments because, well to put it bluntly, they haven’t worked. Put aside the ‘Clark is an ideal impact sub for Leeds’, because, well, we already know that.

Tale of two Jacks – just start Jack Clark for heaven’s sake!

Whilst it is just one game in isolation, here’s a look at how half-for-half Jack Harrison and Jack Clark measured up.

  • Touches: Harrison 27 – 35 Clark
  • Passes Attempted: Harrison 16 – 24 Clark
  • Pass Accuracy: Harrison 77% – 89% Clark
  • Dribbles (Successful): Harrison 2 (2) – 7 (4) Clark
  • Dispossed: Harrison 4 – 0 Clark

The stats could go on, numbers could be poured out, but the simple fact of the matter is that Jack Clark had a better half today against Hull City that Jack Harrison did. Even a glance at their heatmaps from the game shows that Clark was more of a threat around the Hull City box.

So, stop faffing around with tactics, reasons and excuses. Just start Jack Clark will you!
