Leeds United keeper loan bid rejected but transfer target closed down

It is as clear as day that the goalkeeping situation at Leeds United is a situation that needs to be reflected on, in some way, in the January transfer window.

Current #1 stopper Bailey Peacock-Farrell is coping admirably with the heavy load that comes with being Leeds United’s go-to keeper.

As it stands at the moment, Peacock-Farrell’s support comes from youngster Will Huffer, an England Under-20 international with just one game of first-team experience at Elland Road.

Since this situation transpired, many names have been bandied about as to who Leeds United are going all out for in January. Top of most gossip columns seems to be Newcastle United #2 Karl Darlow.

The Chronicle report that Leeds United have actually stepped up and made a “cheeky loan bid” for the former Nottingham Forest man who is making headway in a return from an elbow injury.

however, the Chronicle go on to state that such a deal is not to Newcastle United’s liking and will rebuff such an approach, saying that The Toon “will only listen to cash offers for the £4million-rated stopper.”

28-year-old Darlow was a £4.5million buy for the Magpies from Nottingham Forest in 2014, but has only featured in one Carabao Cup tie this season., after featuring in 10 Premier League games last season (15 conceded/two clean sheets).

He started 34 games (32 conceded/13 clean sheets) in Newcastle’s promotion campaign of 2016/17, being an integral part of their climb out of the Sky Bet Championship.

The cachet and plaudits that he gained from this season has gone a long way to adding to that £4m value that Newcastle have placed in him and what would be required from Leeds United for his services.

A late twist though that draws a line under the speculation comes directly from Rafa Benitez’s latest presser:
