Leeds United keeper transfer hunt takes surprising twist

When it comes to Christmas, they say that dogs are keepers and not just for the festive period. When it comes to Leeds United, there is also a ‘keeper’ situation developing.

However, Whites fans are hoping that the club do something about this, even if it is a short-term fix for the rest of the season rather than a longer appointment.

Such is the dearth of stoppers on the books at Elland Road, that first-choice Bailey Peacock-Farrell is the only establish keeper that Leeds United have. Below him, it’s dipping into the Under-23s  – Will Huffer already a regular on a very young Leeds United bench.

However, according to Milliyet Gazetesi’s reporter Serdar Sarıdağ on Twitter, that could all be about to change at Elland Road with a keeper said to be in the Whites sights.

In a lengthy thread about Turkish football, Sarıdağ said that Leeds are ‘interested’ in Spanish keeper Fabri, a player who is on the books at Premier Fulham after a £5.5m transfer from Besiktas in late July this year from Turkish side Besiktas.

He’s only featured twice this season in Fulham’s disappointing Premier League campaign, and seemingly is weighing up his options. In the above tweet, Sarıdağ says that Fabri has dismissed ideas of a move to Everton.

Of more interest to Leeds fans is the certaintly of Sarıdağ when he says “Leeds United and Rayo Vallecano want him. (Leeds United ve Rayo Vallecano onu istiyor.)” There is little doubt that Leeds do need a stopper, and Spaniard Fabri does fit that bill.

Yet, will a player of such stature as he is want to drop down to the second-tier of English football to act as a back-up? That is, unless, Marcelo Bielsa has other plans for Fabri and Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
