Why Leeds United have a bone to pick with Boxing Day opponents

Leeds haven’t dropped three points in many games this season, but in the few they have there is a need to put things right. When West Bromwich Albion come to town we have a point to prove and when we head to Birmingham the same applies. Blackburn Rovers also fall under that umbrella.

It may have seemed that Leeds dominated the game at Ewood Park but for those who watched or attended that game it certainly didn’t feel like that. A lot is being made of stats these days and now we have access to them it does make for interesting reading. The stats that matter are goals for and against though, come the end of the game. Leeds bossed possession at Blackburn but we didn’t deserve anything from that game, Blackburn had better chances and looked like they wanted it more. Today gives us the chance to get some revenge over Blackburn.

Leeds United forward Jack Clarke (47) applauds the fans at full time during the EFL Sky Bet Championship match between Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United at Ewood Park, Blackburn, England on 20 October 2018.

It’s hard to be critical of the team this season, the form has been outstanding and in terms of effort I can’t say we have packed any game in unlike seasons previously. Even the thumping at West Brom wasn’t down to a lack of effort, we just didn’t play well anywhere on the park. Leeds huffed and puffed at Blackburn but without any end product. Kemar Roofe was played out wide, Pablo Hernandez wasn’t fit and came off the bench and we had players playing out of position.

This is by no means an easy task today, Blackburn are pretty solid but don’t travel as well as they perform at home. Bradley Dack is linked with a move to the Premier League and will want to impress and all over the park they have solid Championship players. There is a fine balance of keeping it tight at the back and attacking, the packed out Elland Road crowd will expect a win but will have to be patient.
