Ex Derby County, Hull City and PNE boss moves to Indian Super League

Former Derby County, Hull City and Preston North End manager Phil Brown has been named as the new head coach of Indian Super League outfit FC Pune City according to BBC Sport.

The 59-year-old had been out of work for just five weeks after being sacked by former club Swindon Town last month following a string of disappointing performances.

It has now been revealed that Brown will take charge of struggling Indian Super League club FC Pune City FC. The Stallions have won just three of their opening 12 league matches and currently occupy seventh position in the Indian Super League table. It is understood that Brown will initially take up the role until the end of the season.

After beginning his managerial career as a caretaker at Bolton Wanderers, Brown spent seven months in charge of Derby County but was unable to improve the club’s form. A move to Hull City followed where Brown won his first promotion as a manager by defeating Bristol City 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley. He spent over three years with The Tigers before being sacked in summer 2010 after being placed on ‘gardening leave’.

A short spell with Preston North End came next for Brown before he guided Southend United to Sky Bet League One with another play-off final victory in 2015.

Brown’s latest job with Swindon Town lasted just eight months. He was sacked after winning 10 of his 32 matches in charge of the Sky Bet League Two club.
