Wigan Athletic, Wigan Athletic interested in Blackpool defender

Wigan Athletic interested in Blackpool defender

Wigan Athletic are interested in Blackpool defender Curtis Tilt, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The 27-year-old was linked with Championship side Ipswich Town throughout the summer but a move never materialised.

He could now be set for his move to the second tier with Wigan looking to bring in another central defender.

Tilt had an impressive rise up the leagues and started his career in non-league with spells as Halesowen Town and Hednesford Town. He then signed for AFC Telford in 2015 and spent a season playing for them in the National League North before he was snapped up by Wrexham the following summer.

Tilt played 36 games for Wrexham in the 2016/17 season but ended the campaign on loan at Forest Green Rovers and helped them gain promotion to the Football League, thus earning himself a move to League One side Blackpool.

After doing well in the third tier last season, Tilt has become a man in-demand over the summer but the Seasiders weren’t willing to lose him to Ipswich on the cheap so the Tractor Boys decided to look elsewhere in the end.

Tilt stayed with Blackpool and has impressed for them again in this campaign so far. He has played 22 games in all competitions and chipped in with three goals from defence.

Wigan could tempt Blackpool next month with a substantial offer and provide competition and depth to their defence by landing Tilt. The Latics are looking to tighten up their backline and see Tilt as someone who fits the bill.
