According to Swedish source Sportbladet, Leeds United forward Pawel Cibicki is heading back out on loan in January. This time, the Swede is returning home to play for Elfsborg.
This return to the Allsvenskan for the Swede of Polish heritage is surely a big sign that his Leeds United adventure is at an end. 24-year-old Cibicki signed for the Whites from Swedish side Malmo on transfer deadline day – 31 August 2017.
His signature cost the Whites around £1.4 million. He only featured in seven games for Leeds United in his time at the club, providing two assists.
However, as Leeds struggled under Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, it was increasingly clear that his face didn’t fit. When Marcelo Bielsa took over the reins at Elland Road, it was also clear that he’d not be a part of the plans going forward.
To that end, a loan deal was agreed with Cibicki joining Norwegian side Molde who play in Norway’s top tier – the Eliteserien. During his time in Norway, Cibicki returned a decent three goals and three assists in 13 games.
Now Sportbladet say that his next move is a return to the Allsvenskan, where he played for Malmo between 2013 and 2017. They say that Cibicki is “very close to a transition to Elfsborg” and that the club “will agree” a deal with Leeds United that is “primarily related to a loan.”
The wording of what Sportbladet report could point at a permanent transfer, what with the use of the word ‘primarily’. Either way, it does appear that his first step is one out of Elland Road and back to Sweden.
