Harris: “The fans were class, I understand their frustration”

Neil Harris was left to rue Millwall’s lack of cutting edge once again after they were beaten 1-0 at Stoke on Saturday.

Millwall outplayed Stoke for long periods at the Bet365 Stadium but failed to find a goal. This would cost them as Saido Berahino headed the winner in the second half.

Asked weather he felt it was a fair result Harris had this to say “No, I thought Stoke were better with the ball than us. They are a possession based team. Jordan makes a save in the first half from 30 yards. “Second half one contact in our penalty area, ball ends up in the net.”

Harris praised his players for their performance. “I thought on balance of play, chances created, that we should take something from the game. It was a really strong performance by us.Winning games is the business we are in. It’s my job to make the players realise when they play well and when they don’t. I just said to them downstairs, that was an excellent away performance that deserved more than it got.

Millwall had a penalty shout late on when Bruno Martins-Indi and Lee Gregory collided in the box. “I’ve watched it from two different angles and Lee doesn’t take his eye of the ball, so he just gets in position to bring the ball down. The defender is looking at the ball also but goes into the back of him.

“Anywhere else on the pitch in our penalty area, the referee jumps to give it. Against Sheffield United earlier in the season we conceded a late penalty to lose the game. Shaun Williams does exactly the same as that and the referee gives the decision. The ref’s got to be better there, he’s got to be stronger.

Harris was also asked about the 1,500 traveling Millwall fans he said “I thought they were class, I think they saw a strong Millwall performance. I understand their frustration because they want to win games but to see their team come here and play against a strong side like Stoke who are constantly improving. I think they will be proud of the performance.”
