Leeds United no contract talks for star player

Leeds United are a side that many watch and almost will to fail, such is the ‘hatred’ from fans of other clubs. In a way, it is par for the course for Whites fans.

The Whites currently second in the Sky Bet Championship table on 45 points after 22 games played. Tomorrow’s game against 12th-placed Aston Villa could see United reclaim top-spot from Norwich City.

To put a little perspective onto this, after nearly half the season’s games, the Whites already have 75% of last season’s 60 point total from basically the same core of players. One of those players, and a leading star for the Whites this season, is Kemar Roofe.

The former Oxford United striker has hit 10 of Leeds United’s goals this season, around 28% of their 36 goals scored so far this campaign. The fleet-footed forward is really coming on under Marcelo Bielsa, as are most of the Whites in fairness.

Yet, despite this form and despite leading the United scoring lists, Roofe hasn’t heard from the club over improved terms of his current deal. Roofe’s current deal runs until the summer of 2020, so there’s really no great need to rush from the Whites.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP), the 10-goal hitman admits that he expects the club to come calling to discuss new terms. However, he also says that he isn’t unduly worried.

He told the YEP: “Contract wise, I still haven’t heard anything. I am just playing my football and seeing what happens. ” This approach, the laid-back approach, is one that used to worry Leeds United fans. Yet it is these fans that Roofe alludes to when saying just how they add to his experience at the club.

Speaking of these fans, Roofe says: “You are in the Championship but the fan base is a different level. It doesn’t matter where I go in the country or in the world I always meet a Leeds fan and it’s always positive as well.

Roofe travels with his Leeds United teammates to Aston Villa for tomorrow afternoon’s game. It is a game that, if the Whites win, could see the West Yorkshire side open up a six-game winning streak.
