Boost for Sheffield United as hotshot striker returns to training

Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder has told the Yorkshire Post that Leon Clarke is returning to training today and could face Ipswich Town this weekend.

Not many would have expected it but Clarke has become a star striker since signing for Sheffield United. He was one of the top performers last year as the Blades just missed out on a place in the Sky Bet Championship play-off places. This year Clarke had looked to follow that up but he had only scored twice in 19 appearances.

However due to an injury, Clarke has missed the last three games and even though he hasn’t been as on top form as he was last season, he was still a big miss for the club. But there is good news as he will be returning to training today and Wilder is hopeful that he will be part of the squad that faces Ipswich at the weekend.

He said: “Hopefully he will be travelling to Ipswich on Friday,”

“He is due out on the grass today. “It’s been a frustrating one for us and Leon, but fingers crossed he will be in the group who goes down to Ipswich.”

With Clarke back from injury, United fans will be hoping he will soon hit the heights he did last season. He scored 19 goals last season, a shocker considering that many had written him off as a journeyman considering all the teams he has played over the years which even include the likes of United’s hated rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
