Portsmouth closing in on Nottingham Forest midfielder

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is close to joining Portsmouth on loan, as per a report by Nottingham Live.

League One side Pompey are currently top of the league and are hoping Yates can help them gain promotion to the Championship.

Yates has found opportunities hard to come by at Aitor Karanka’s side this season and will be hoping to get more first-team action at Fratton Park now.

He joined Nottingham Forest in 2005 and rose through the youth ranks at the City Ground. He got his first taste of senior football on loan at National League side Barrow at the start of the 2016/17 season and played 16 times for them before finishing the campaign on loan at Shrewsbury Town in League One.

The youngster was then shipped out to Notts County in August 2017 and played 29 games for them in all competitions, scoring 6 goals. He then returned to Forest in January but left again to join Scunthorpe United on loan for the rest of last season.

Yates has experience of playing in the third tier so far in his career and this will come in handy for Portsmouth. It is an exciting time to be a Pompey fan once again and Kenny Jackett’s side are already plotting potential signings for the upcoming January transfer window to help boost their promotion charge.

Ryan Yates is looking likely to be one of the first through the door next month.
