Leeds United, Leeds United boss Bielsa an early outsider for Manchester United job

Leeds United boss Bielsa an early outsider for Manchester United job

Following the news that Manchester United have parted ways with manager Jose Mourinho this morning, the bookies have been quick to get up an odds-list with those who are likely to take over at Old Trafford.

Somewhat interestingly, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa sits at odds of 50/1 with SkyBet – which aren’t too extreme, considering the unlikeliness of the appointment.

Leeds United are flying this season, and are succeeding where Manchester United have failed in being top of their respective league. Bielsa seems to have transformed the Whites’ successes on the field, with the West-Yorkshire side playing fast, free-flowing football that everybody in an LS postcode has been able to buy into.

Most tellingly, Leeds United’s’ squad looks incredibly fit and their dogged determination to cover the hard miles during games has gained him plaudits and recognition from fans across the Football League – who have been able to do nothing less than admiring the work he’s done with his squad.

Last season, Zinedine Zidane was an outsider for the job at Elland Road at 50/1, before the still rather unlikely appointment of Marcelo Bielsa took place in West-Yorkshire. Zidane himself looks much more favourable to take the job on at Old Trafford though, with SkyBet shortlisting him as the second-favourite at odds of just 5/1.

I wouldn’t worry yet if I was a fan of Leeds United, as its quite unlikely Manchester United are going to take the Whites’ prized asset away so quickly when illustrious names within football such as Laurent Blanc, Mauricio Pocchetino, Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte have been linked with the vacant post at Old Trafford; but nonetheless, it’s certainly something that Leeds fans can have a little laugh about.
