Preston North End targeting Shamrock Rovers midfielder

Preston North End are interested in Shamrock Rovers midfielder Aaron Bolger, according to The Irish Independent.

The Championship side are weighing up a move for the 18-year-old in the upcoming January transfer window.

Preston are no strangers to delving into the Irish leagues for talent. The Lilywhites have signed the likes of Sean Maguire and Graham Burke from Cork City and Shamrock Rovers respectively over recent seasons.

They are now keeping tabs on Bolger as they look to add some more options to their midfield in the long-term. The youngster is being tipped for a big future by Shamrock.

Bolger, who is an Irish youth international, is a tough tackling central midfielder and has already broken into the Shamrock first-team. He became the League of Ireland’s first post-Millenium born footballer when he made his debut against Cork City in the FAI Cup in 2017.

He went onto play 17 games for the Hoops last year at the age of just 17 which means he already has senior experience under his belt, which would come in handy for Preston.

The Lancashire side are expecting to bring in a couple of reinforcements to their squad next month as Alex Neil’s side look to climb up the league table. They made a poor start to the season but have seen an upturn in their form.

They are now 15th in the league and face a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday followed by a home fixture against Hull City on boxing day.
