Ipswich Town plotting loan move for Middlesbrough striker

Ipswich Town sit bottom of the Championship and are actively looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window.

One area Ipswich are wanting to strengthen is up front, and have identified Middlesbrough striker Rudy Gestede as a possible loan target according to The Telegraph.

Gestede has been plagued with injuries since joining Boro in January 2017, playing only 36 games in almost two years; he has scored just four goals in that time.

The same report suggests that Middlesbrough would be willing to let Gestede leave, albeit on loan. Currently in their squad they have several strikers competing for places, with West Ham loanee Jordan Hugill, record signing Britt Assombalonga, Denmark international Martin Braithwaite and £6 million man Ashley Fletcher.

When asked about possible signings in January, Ipswich manager Paul Lambert said “There are players we’ve identified to try and get.

“Ideally you want ones who know this league and that’s what I’m looking at because we need a bit more experience.

“I won’t turn away from anything. If they are good enough to come in then I will look at it. They can be young. If there’s a hunger there and they want to come then great.

“But predominantly we need lads who know the league, plus higher.”

Despite being only a bit-part player for Tony Pulis’ side, Gestede’s ability has been there for all to see over the years spent in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Cardiff City. He will be hoping a move away from Teesside will reignite his Championship career, and the Tractor Boys are willing to offer him a lifeline.
