It’s official. As Christmas week approaches, as we all gear up for the festivities, Leeds United fans are finally having to admit that Samu Saiz has left the club.
It came as a definite shock at the tail-end of last week when Phil Hay announced that Saiz had asked the club to consider him moving back to Spain. A crowd favourite at Elland Road, Saiz had proven to be one of the most gifted players of recent times.
However, citing family issues and being unsettled in England as the reasons, initial reports were that a deal was being brokered with La Liga side Getafe. That is as the case proved to be, news being confirmed by Leeds United today that a deal had been struck.
This deal, as United confirmed, was a temporary one in the first instance “with a view to a permanent move in the summer window.” The popular Spaniard will remain in Madrid with his family ahead of his loan spell commencing.
That just leaves Leeds United fans to still sit there contemplating the loss of a player with a keen eye for a pass and also with an ability to get the side firing and changing the direction and/or impetus of a game.
With the news being confirmed, there were bound to be comments from Whites fans. That proved to be the case. Here’s what some fans had to say over on Twitter.

It takes us the entire transfer window to bring someone in but manage to do an outgoing deal two weeks before it starts

All the best @Samusaiz It was a joy to see you play for Leeds. Who knows maybe once things settle with his family he can join us again for next season in premier league 😜

Bless him, I hope he and his partner feel more settled there. He’s a great player and he deserves to be happy
