Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United Under-23s coach provide reassuring update on Izzy Brown

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa and Under-23s Head Coach Carlos Corberan have provided a reassuring update on playmaker Izzy Brown after he limped off in Leeds’ Under-23s’ game versus Barnsley on Monday afternoon.

Leeds United playmaker Izzy Brown is edging closer and closer to his return to first team football with the Championship side, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January while on loan with Brighton and Hove Albion last season.

Brown has started his return to football with Leeds United’s Under-23s. However, fans feared he had suffered another setback when he limped off against Barnsley’s Under-23s on Monday afternoon.

However, Leeds United Under-23s Head Coach Carlos Corberan has provided a positive update on the Chelsea loanee.

“Izzy Brown was withdrawn as a precaution,” Corberan told the club website.

“He felt his hamstring was a little bit tight and we didn’t want to take any risks- his knee is fine.”

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa added to Corberan’s comments regarding Brown.

“He needs to work on his intensity and strength but that’s normal because of how little he’s played,” Bielsa said.

The sudden movements he can make, when he sprints, when he stops, the switch of direction, the short sprints, these are the elements that are needed for a player with a technique like Izzy Brown.

“You need to have a certain level of performance to impose your technical skills. He’s working on these small details”

With the departure of playmaker Samu Saiz confirmed on Monday evening, Brown could be set to break into the starting eleven. However, he will have to prove that he has returned to full fitness before Bielsa brings him into the senior side.
