Hull City receive boost in pursuit of Derby County midfielder

Derby County are in the hunt to strengthen their midfield in January and are being linked with a move for Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara, as reported by The72 yesterday.

This potential move for the Finland international would free up the Rams’ Jacob Butterfield for an exit from Pride Park.

The 28-year-old has fallen out of favour at Pride Park under Frank Lampard and has been linked with a move to fellow Championship side Hull City. He is yet to play for Derby this season.

Butterfield spent the last campaign on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and played 21 times for the Owls in all competitions.

He has plenty of experience of playing in the Championship and would give the Tigers’ boss Nigel Adkins more options in midfield.

Butterfield, who has played over 300 games so far in his career, started out as a youngster at Manchester United before switching to Barnsley in 2007. He went onto play 100 times for the Tykes before he was snapped up by Norwich City in 2012.

He played just three games for the Canaries and was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace. Middlesbrough then signed him on a permanent deal and he spent a season at the Riverside before moving again to Huddersfield Town.

Butterfield was a key player for the Terriers in the Championship and impressed in his season-and-a-half there prior to being signed by Derby for a fee of around £5 million in September 2015. He has since featured 89 times for the Pride Park club, but could now be on his way to the KCOM Stadium in search of regular first-team action.
