With Samu Saiz in Spain to complete a loan move to Getafe it’s all about getting Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown fit. He played and scored last week for the under 23’s and today he would have wanted the same. However he limped off before half-time, the extent of the injury is unknown.
It seems like he was holding his hamstring but until we get clarification as to what has happened we can’t say for sure, as Joe Urquhart said on twitter earlier, “either way, not good”. That obviously relates to his knee which would have been the worry given the injury he is coming back from. This couldn’t come at a worse time, Saiz is joining Getafe on loan, a deal that I personally don’t think would have happened had we not signed Izzy Brown and he was almost ready to return to first-team action.
Brown was signed with the club knowing it would take until around the New Year to get him fully fit. He was signed with the second half of the season in mind and what would hopefully be a promotion push under Marcelo Bielsa. Having the likes of Saiz, Brown and Hernandez who can all operate as the creative player would be crucial given how much those players have struggled towards the back-end of the last two seasons, Saiz last and Pablo the year before.

We can only hope the injury wasn’t as bad as it looked, with Brown going down off the ball rather than after a tackle. If Brown is out for any period of time that sets him back then we will have to look into the market to replace because we are really lacking in numbers at the moment. There is no attacking midfielder in the under 23’s who could step-in, Pablo Hernandez moving central allowing Jack Clarke onto the wing seems like the only option.
