Leeds United will be without Spanish playmaker Samu Saiz today as the player is on the brink of completing a move to La Liga that would be officially done in January. Saiz is expected for his medical next week and it seems we have seen the last of him in a Leeds United shirt, less than two years after he made the move.
So no Samuel Saiz today, or again. A rare player who looks sadly unfulfilled as he leaves. It’s a shame he wasn’t able to stick but I’d expect Bielsa to be philosophical about it. A loss though, no doubt.

Saiz is a big fan favourite at Leeds United but his form since the start of the season has swung back to where it ended last season. The spitting incident at Newport County seemed to rock the player in all honesty and he never recovered last season. Under Marcelo Bielsa he was very poor in pre-season but bounced back in the opening game against Stoke City to turn in one of the best performances he had in a Leeds United shirt.
He was even better at Derby and Norwich in the coming weeks and looked even better than he did on arrival last season but yet again his form deteriorated very quickly and he’s found himself on the bench under Marcelo Bielsa, Mateusz Klich playing in an attacking midfield role, a player who Bielsa had playing and training with the under 23’s during pre-season.
The deal to take Saiz to Getafe doesn’t seem great for the club but the reasons for his departure all seem to be personal and the club have realised this. Now we know Marcelo Bielsa better you couldn’t for one minute think that if Saiz went to him and explained his issues he would be anything but supportive of the player. Would Bielsa keep a player who doesn’t want to be here anymore? The simple answer is no.
