January was meant to be a quiet month, Leeds would welcome back the likes of Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi, Izzy Brown and Liam Cooper. No deals in and no deals out. In the last 24 hours that has been blown out of the water because Samu Saiz is heading out of the Elland Road door.

Although the fans are split on the news it is a big blow to the club. Saiz isn’t even leaving for a fee, a loan deal that will almost certainly become permanent in the summer but why would the club allow a player to leave for nothing when we are going for automatic promotion. The whole situation is bizarre but thee seems to be an acceptance from Leeds United that if Saiz wants out there is no point in keeping him.

The best option may have been to make him available for sale and try to make some money in January. The idea that we need a replacement isn’t 100% true in my opinion, I believe that Izzy Brown is one of the best attacking midfielders in the league and if we didn’t have him returning to fitness this situation may have been much more complicated.

Saiz will probably be signed by Getafe so he can move when January rolls around and many Leeds fans are hugely disappointed to see him leave. With the deal just being a loan there is a chance that he may return and play for the club again but of course that seems highly unlikely. Saiz would probably suit the Premier League more than the Championship, it’s just a shame he feels he needs to leave as we push to try to make that a reality.
