Aston Villa keeping tabs on Australian duo

Aston Villa are showing an interest in signing Western Sydney Wanderers defender Josh Risdon and Sydney FC midfielder Brandon O’Neill, as per a report by Birmingham Live.

Dean Smith will be looking to bring in some players in the January transfer window as he looks to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad.

Risdon, who has made 13 caps for Australia, has impressed in the A-League playing for Western Sydney Wanderers.

He played alongside fellow Villa target O’Neill at Perth Glory. Risdon started out at Perth and went onto play over 150 games for them before leaving in May 2017 to swap to the Wanderers.

O’Neill has been a key player for Sydney FC since joining them in 2015. He is yet to make a senior appearance for the Australia national team but has played for his country at Under-23 level.

The 24-year-old started out at local side Perth but left three years ago for Sydney. O’Neill has since played just under 100 games for the Sky Blues and has helped them win the A-League title twice, A-League Championship and FFA Cup.

Both Risdon and O’Neill would add depth to Aston Villa’s squad. The Midlands side are currently 8th in the Championship and just four points off the Play-Offs.

Dean Smith is looking like a top appointment by Villa and he has managed to turn their season around. It is set to be an exciting transfer window for them next month as the former Brentford and Walsall boss aims to bring some players through the door.
