Samu Saiz is pushing for a return to Spain in January with Getafe, currently sitting high in La Liga are said to be trying to do a deal to bring the player back to his home country. The playmaker is having a tough time at Elland Road, only starting once in the last month and struggling for form and this development isn’t really a huge shock.

Although the news is a shock because there have been no rumours of this, it isn’t actually a huge surprise. It’s clear by the body language of Samu Saiz he isn’t enjoying himself at the moment. In all honesty he has struggled since the start of the season where he looked back to his very best under new coach Marcelo Bielsa. He started last season on fire but the incident at Newport in the FA Cup rocked him and it ended our promotion hopes as the team couldn’t cope without him.

Despite Saiz not playing very well, or playing much at all in recent weeks this would be a huge blow to Leeds United. In terms of ability there aren’t many, if any who are as good as Saiz in the Football League and if Leeds were to gain promotion he would actually suit the Premier League more than the rough and tough of the Championship. If he’s asked to leave, which the YEP believe to be the truth then Leeds will have little option but to sell the player.

Saiz still doesn’t speak English and with his partner pregnant he is apparently unsettled this move seems very likely, inevitable in fact. Do Leeds have the players to get us through the season? Izzy Brown is certainly a talent, one of the best attacking midfielders in the Football League but when you lose a player of the calibre of Samu Saiz it certainly isn’t good for the football club. Leeds may try to convince him to stay but knowing what happened with Ronaldo Vieira in the summer when Sampdoria put a decent bid on the table this move seems realistic.
