West Brom in the hunt for wantaway Premier League striker

Premier League side Cardiff City look set to offload out of favour striker Ibrahim Meite, and Championship promotion contenders West Brom are one of many teams to be looking at bringing the attacker in.

According to the Daily Mail, West Brom are looking at a move for Cardiff City striker Ibrahim Meite in the January transfer window.

The striker has fallen way down the pecking order at Cardiff City, and he doesn’t look set to make his way into Neil Warnock’s plans any time soon. The Bluebirds are keen to sell Meite in the upcoming window, and several clubs are looking at bringing him in.

West Brom will have to beat a host of European clubs for Meite’s signature. Premier League side Watford, French club Saint Ettiene, Hannover of the Bundesliga and Russian duo FC Ural and Spartak Moscow. Meita went on trial with FC Ural last month, scoring in a behind closed doors friendly against Enosis Neon Paralimni.

Meite made a name for himself at Harrow Borough of the Southern League Premier Division, scoring 13 goals in 28 games in his debut season. He caught the eye on the club’s FA Cup run in the 2016/17 season, as The Boro made it to the First Round after progressing through the qualification stages. Meite picked up four goals in six games before Northampton Town knocked them out with a 6-0 battering.

The former Crawley Town loanee will be available on a free transfer this January, with Cardiff keen to get him off the books.
