According to Sky Sports, Reading have decided to terminate their interest in Vitória de Guimaraes manager Luis Castro.
The Royals, who sit in 22nd place in the Sky Bet Championship, have been without someone in charge since dismissing Paul Clement after a disappointing opening to the season.
However, the hunt goes on with the former Porto boss said not to have been able to agree suitable terms to join the Championship strugglers. As such, he will remain in charge of Vitória, a side he has taken to fifth in the Liga NOS.
Reading, who haven’t won in their last five outings since beating Bristol City 3-2 in early November, will enter Saturday’s crunch tie with Rotherham with Under-23 coach Scott Marshall in temporary charge.
However, the loss of Castro means that Reading will turn their gaze elsewhere. Sky report that their ‘sources’ indicate that Reading have a shortlist they have compiled, and mention that one name on there is former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic.
Jokanovic has been on the market since being sacked by Fulham in mid-November, his three-year tenure at Craven Cottage coming to an end after The Cottagers dismal start to their Premier League campaign.
Should Reading turn their attention to Jokanovic, they will be bringing in a manager with an excellent track record at Sky Bet Championship level. Whatever appointment is made though, it looks likely that it will be one where the new man in will have to get dug in deep as Reading fight against relegation for the second season in succession.
