New Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Ricketts believes that the club are well-equipped both on and off the pitch to progress under his leadership.

The Shrews were defeated 2-1 at Burton Albion in new boss Ricketts’ first league match in charge this afternoon but deserved to come away with at least a point.

Speaking to The72 after the match, Ricketts said that he was delighted with what he has seen at the club so far both on and off the pitch.

“I’m delighted at what I have seen since I’ve come in” said The Shrews boss. “I’ve seen a group of players with an attitude and desire to do something.

“Their work-rate and desire to impress along with their ability is excellent.

“The staff behind the scenes and the infrastructure is excellent.

“I am looking forward to getting going and kicking on as the season goes on.”

A large number of travelling supporters made the trip to the Pirelli Stadium and Ricketts paid tribute to them.

Ricketts added “They were excellent, they really were.

“I heard them at the start of the game and I just want to say thank you to them and thank you for their support.

“They are a big part of what we are trying to do.”

Shrewsbury Town are back in action next Saturday when they welcome Peterborough United to the Montgomery Waters Meadow.
