Leeds United provide promising update on defensive duo’s long term injuries

Leeds United’s Head of Medicine and Performance Rob Price has provided a promising update on United’s defensive duo Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling.

Leeds United defenders Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling are both on the sidelines, after both suffering long-term injuries in the early stages of this season.

Switzerland international Berardi suffered a hamstring injury in United’s clash with Ispwich Town, while Ayling picked up a knee ligament injury against fellow promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest.

The pair have been going through rehabilitation and the club’s Head of Medicine and Performance Rob Price has provided a promising update on the injured duo.

When asked about Luke Ayling’s recovery, Price said:

“He’s doing really well,” Price said to Leeds United’s website.

“It was a significant injury he got and he was braced up until four weeks so he’s only been out of that brace for just over a week now. He’s already outside doing stuff with Reuben our rehab fitness coach and he’s progressing as well as we could hope at this stage.”

There is still no date of recovery for Berardi, but Price added that the defender’s recovery is still going well:

“It’s interesting. We’ve done a series of injections to try and improve the healing area at the top of the hamstring,”

“We went for some re-imaging of it this week and it shows that it’s improving really, really well. We’ve got another stage with re-imaging again in two weeks just to make sure before we can push him on further outside.

“With these injuries you cannot give a firm return to play date until they get past a few stages first.”
