Albert Adomah, Aston Villa set to hand star winger long term contract

Aston Villa set to hand star winger long term contract

Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah is set to be given a new long-term contract at Villa Park, just months after former manager Steve Bruce told him he could leave on a free transfer.

TEAMtalk have revealed that winger Albert Adomah is set to be offered a new deal at Villa Park, months after it seemed that his stint as an Aston Villa player looked set to come to an end.

Despite being named as the club’s player of the year after an impressive season, former manager Steve Bruce told the winger that the club would cancel his contract with 12 months remaining, and let him leave on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old looked set to return to former club Middlesbrough, but a move never materialised.

A deal ultimately fell through because Boro weren’t willing to sign the winger to a contract longer than 12 months, something Adomah couldn’t agree to.

Despite not emulating the goal scoring form of last season, Adomah has been a main part of Dean Smith’s side since his arrival from Championship rivals Brentford. The Ghanaian winger is yet to open his account in the 2018/19 season, a poor haul compared to the 15 he picked up last season.

However, his impressive performance against rivals Birmingham City – in which he assisted two goals in his 65 minutes on the pitch.
