Leeds United lead Arsenal and Celtic in the chase for highly-rated Under-20 World Cup winning ‘keeper

Leeds United have been suffering from goalkeeper worries in the past few weeks, but they could be set to come to an end. The Whites are reportedly closing in on a January loan move for Newcastle United’s Under-20 World Cup winning shot stopper Freddie Woodman.

According to the Bristol Post, Leeds United are set to beat Premier League giants Arsenal and Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic to the January signature of Newcastle United shot stopper Freddie Woodman.

Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman is set for a long spell on the sidelines as suffered a broken leg in a reserve clash with Birmingham City after colliding with Blues forward Beryly Lubala. This leaves academy graduate Bailey Peacock-Farrell as the only fit senior keeper at Elland Road – and he was out injured for the Bristol City game last week, paving the way for Will Huffer to make his first team debut. Fellow academy ‘keeper Kamil Miazek had to provide back up from the bench.

However, Leeds United’s goalkeeping woes look set to be solved in the January window, with several names lined up. Woodman looks set to be the closest to fruition, with first team chances at St James’ Park non existent as Martin Dubravka holds down the number one spot.

Arsenal and Celtic were both keen on the youngster, but favoured permanent deals. Both Woodman and The Magpies were not keen on a permanent move, with the youngster keen to stay with the North East club and Rafa Benitez determined to keep the promising youngster.

Leeds United have been linked with a range of names since the injury of Blackman, with David Stockdale, Jonathan Bond and Tom Heaton all reportedly on the radar of The Whites.
