Millwall lost 2-0 against Birmingham at The Den on Wednesday night here, Alex Grace rates the players.
Jordan Archer– 6– Took his chance against Bolton to showcase his talents, made some decent saves and looked back to the keeper that broke into the side in 2015/16 season.
Mahlon Romeo– 6 –Returned to the side after missing the last two games. Did well as an attacking outlet for Millwall. He offers something that McLaughlin does not and that is a better attacking threat. He was also defensively sound.
Shaun Hutchinson–5 –Gets too easily beaten by Che Adams for the first goal. He is not as solid as he was last season. Looked a lot more comfortable in the second half. Was substituted after getting a nasty looking cut. The answer to it could be is he fully fit following injury?
Jake Cooper – 6 –Struggled early on but grew. Made a great goal line clearance at 1-0. He pursued the long ball tactic with no success. He made some very important interceptions and goal line clearances that kept the Lions in the game for as long as possible.
James Meredith – 6 –Did well on both defensive and offensive duty. Started a lot of Millwall attacks but often petered out. He was very good defensively but his end product let him down.
Jed Wallace: – 6 – Was one of the bright sparks in the game. Anything that Millwall did well in an attacking situation was down his side. His free-kick one of only two attempts on target.
Shaun Williams–5– Very casual in possession. Strangely for Williams this has been the case for the last two games. Was too calm on the ball and gave it away on a number of occasions.
Ryan Leonard– 4– Started brightly but got booked early on. This came back to haunt him as after half an hour he would pick up a second booking and was heading back to the dressing room.
Shane Ferguson– 5 – Hard to rate him due to the fact he was sacrificed. Was looking Millwall’s best crosser of the ball in the opening exchanges.
Lee Gregory – 6 – As always chased everything down. Got on the end of a few long balls up to him. His movement was fantastic and looked a lot more comfortable up top with his captain back alongside him. However, he had nothing in front of goal.
Steve Morison: – 6 – A surprise inclusion in the starting 11 after missing out altogether on Saturday. Did not look 100%, was marked out of the game fairly well by the Birmingham defence and gave away the corner that led to the second goal.
Substitutes
Ryan Tunnicliffe – 6 –Came on and performed well, did not put a foot wrong and did what was asked of him. Slotted in well to a midfield trio and could well be Leonard’s replacement on Sunday.
Aiden O’Brien – 5 – Could consider himself unlucky not to be in the starting 11. Did not have much time to make an overall impact.
Murray Wallace – 5 – Looked sound when he came on. Did not have much to do in the closing stages of the game.
