MK Dons goal hero Gilbey delighted to score twice on ‘perfect night’

MK Dons midfielder Alex Gilbey has described beating Morecambe 2-0 at Stadium MK as ‘the perfect night’.

The 23-year-old Dagenham-born midfielder netted both goals as The Dons eventually fought off a stubborn and well-organised Morecambe outfit.

Both of Gilbey’s strikes would not have looked out of place in the English Premier League with the player twice finding the corner of the visitors’ net from around 25 yards.

Speaking to The72 after the match, Gilbey said that it had been and evening to remember for him personally.

“It was a perfect night but the main thing is that we got the three points” the midfielder said. “Now we can kick-on again after a disappointing weekend.

“I needed those goals badly tonight and after a slow start, I am up to speed and feeling really good.”

Any player would have been proud of scoring either of Gilbey’s goals and the player believed that his first strike was the better of the two.

“Probably the first one” Gilbey said when asked about which goal was his favourite. “Rhys Healey was telling me to pass the ball, I don’t think he had any confidence in me.

“It’s nice to see them go in but the most important thing is the three points and a clean sheet.”

The result sends MK Dons top of the Sky Bet League Two table but Gilbey says that there is still so much work to be done.

“It’s good to be top of the table but it doesn’t really matter at this time of the year” the player admitted.

“We can rest up over the weekend now and go again a week on Saturday.”

The Dons have now won their last five matches at home in Sky Bet League Two and Gilbey believes that getting the wins at Stadium MK is key to promotion.

Gilbey added “We have been brilliant at home and that is what the manager has got into us.

“Teams should be scared of coming to play us here and that’s what we’ve got this season.

“I think we’ve done really well and kicked-on at home and if we pick up points away from home we will be ok.”

MK Dons now have a free weekend due to not being involved in the Emirates FA Cup second round. They return to action a week on Saturday when Carlisle United are the visitors to Stadium MK.
