An updated five potential candidates for the Shrewsbury Town job

Shrewsbury Town are still in the hunt for a new manager to replace John Askey. Here is an updated five potential candidates for the vacant position-

Michael Flynn, Newport County- He has emerged as a frontrunner having done an impressive job with League Two side Newport. He kept them up in his first campaign in charge against all odds, guided them to a creditable 11th place finish last season and now his side are 5th.

Sam Ricketts, Wrexham- The former Hull City, Bolton Wanderers and Wolves defender is doing a good job with Wrexham in his first managerial role. His newly inherited side are 3rd in the National League but they could face a battle to hold onto their boss in the near future.

Danny Coyne- He is currently in caretaker charge for the Shrews. The 44-year-old has been a coach at New Meadow since 2013 and been in interim charge before. Could he be considered for the full-time role?

Gary Bowyer- The former Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers boss is another candidate for the job. He left Blackpool after just one game this season. The 47-year-old guided the Seasiders to promotion from League Two in 2017 under difficult circumstances.

Kevin Nolan- He was harshly sacked by Notts County at the end of August despite guiding them to the League Two Play-Offs last season. The former Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United midfielder, who has also previously managed Leyton Orient, is looking for a swift return to management and has been linked with the Shrewsbury job.
