Latics didn’t take the opportunity to climb into the top half of the table after Tranmere came back to secure a 1-1 draw at Prenton Park.
Frankie Bunn’s starting eleven consisted of Iversen, Hunt, Clarke ©, Edmundson, Taylor, Branger-Engone, Lyden, Gardner, Nepomuceno, Lang, Miller.
James Norwood had the first opportunity of the game, but George Edmundson managed to get back and stop the league’s top scorer as he tried to strike at goal.
Ollie Banks had an afternoon to forget against his former club, he tried his luck from the edge of the box but nearly ended up as a throw-in, later on he hit a freekick way over the bar.
With 39 minutes played, Latics winger Gevaro Nepomuceno put in a low corner into the box from the right and it landed at Johan Branger-Engone feet and he fired in from the centre of the box past Scott Davies (0-1).
Half-Time – Tranmere Rovers 0-1 Oldham Athletic
Early in the second half, Jennings had a massive chance for Tranmere Rovers, as Jake Caprice’s cross found him at the back post, but his deflected effort went just wide.
Ishmael Miller had a chance to double the Latics’ lead on 67 minutes but, he shanked his effort wide of the Tranmere Rovers goal.
Following this, Callum Lang played Sam Surridge through one on one, but goalkeeper Scott Davies stood up well to block the shot.
On 71 minutes, James Norwood took a free-kick that loop up off the wall and Mottley-Henry managed to head the ball across goal finding Connor Jennings on the edge of the six yard box and he smashed the ball into the right hand corner of the net (1-1).
Latics applied pressure towards the end of additional time however Tranmere Rovers managed to hold on to a point.

Here is how Oldham Athletic fans reacted to 1-1 draw against rivals Tranmere Rovers –
Stating the obvious and for as much as we praise him, Surridge has to score that at 1-0. Game over if he scores. 2 points dropped there imo #oafc

As for the game I thought we played pretty well and would of deserved the win. Felt like our most complete performance yet when you compare it with the teams we’ve played when we have won. Up the Latics #oafc

Normally I am happy to take a point away from home but felt today was two points dropped and we had chances to win today. #oafc

Two points dropped. They were fucking shite. Defending for the equaliser pathetic. Surridge has to take another touch and round the keeper. Taking a short corner when the only twat who's won a header for them all day is off injured is unforgivable. Ref absolutely dogwank #oafc

Good game. Cracking atmosphere, best of season. A mystery more complex than the wranglings of Brexit: How on earth did Ollie Banks stay on the pitch? #oafc We play in Blue & Tangerine 🎶🎵⚽ https://t.co/ro2CzZZf0Y
