Norwich City manager Daniel Farke was left proud of yet another scintillating performance by his side, as they defeated Swansea City 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Norwich City’s march to the top of the Premier League has taken the Championship by surprise, and they continued their stunning run of form with a brilliant performance in South Wales on Saturday.
The victory sees The Canaries extend their run of consecutive wins to six, and are now two points clear at the top of the table ahead of second placed Middlesbrough.
Farke discussed after the game that returning from the after returning from the international break, it could’ve been difficult to prepare for the clash with The Swans. However, the German was left happy as Norwich City extended their winning streak.
“It’s always tricky after a break and several lads were away with their national teams, so to be there in the first game with a really good performance and result is always a bit tricky. But we were able to do this today, it was a great performance and we are all happy,” Farke told the club website.
“We were able to score four goals against a side who have only conceded 13 goals so far this season. I was not very pleased with the first 15 minutes in the first half and also the first 15 minutes in the second half as I think we started a bit slow, but we fought into the game and in the end it was a well-deserved win. I am full of compliments for the lads.
“We also got the feeling we could have even scored a few more goals and missed several chances, but it’s always good to score many goals and it’s good for the self-confidence. It’s also good that several players are able to score – it’s important that Marco Stiepermann was there with a goal and that Emi Buendia and Teemu Pukki added more goals. It’s quite important that we have several players who are capable of scoring goals and we have many threats at the moment.”
Despite sitting 3-0 up at the time, Farke explained that he remained aware that a comeback could’ve been on the cards when Welsh winger Daniel James pulled one back to make it 3-1.
“We knew in the moment when they scored a goal that it would be possible for them to turn the game and come out again pretty motivated.
“They put a lot of pressure on us, especially in the first 15 minutes of the second half. It was important that we stuck together, and our defensive behaviour was brilliant.
“We spoke about how we had to be clinical in our counter actions and go for the fourth goal in order to finish the game. And thank god we were able to score the fourth goal and with this goal I would say the game was done, but it was a hard fight to win the game.”
Farke went on to thank the travelling fans, as 800 fans made the long cross country journey to watch their side take all three points back to Carrow Road.
“It’s crazy that we had so many supporters there with such a long way to travel and we are unbelievably thankful.
We are totally happy that we are able to send them home with a win and this brilliant performance and because of this result and our situation at the moment I think they can fly home.”
