It’s a great time to be alive for Leeds United fans. Gone is the mediocrity that former managers brought with them and left at the table. Instead, there is much hope.
Marcelo Bielsa has come in to the club and turned around an underperforming, mid-table side. He’s only added Barry Douglas on a permanent deal, the rest being loan deals and promoted youngsters.
However, it is the ethos and philosophy around his view of football that has been Bielsa’s biggest gift to Leeds United and their expectant fans. Suddenly, the way they are playing has invigorated Whites supporters, making them dare to believe once more.
Leeds United – the Spanish connection
— LUFC Goals (@LUFC_Goals) November 24, 2018
It’s easy to see why Leeds United fans are joyous at the Spanish connection that is hitting the straps of late. Pablo Hernandez has been consistently good this season so far as the Whites keep pace at the top end of the table. For Samu Saiz, it’s been more a case of impact off the bench of late.
Still, that’s two assists for Saiz and two goals for Hernandez as the Spanish pair continue to hit opponents with the old uno-dos. In total Saiz has four assists for the season so far, just one behind joint-leading assist maker Hernandez.
As many Leeds United fans will be at pains to inform you, Pablo Hernandez is displaying that kind of form that led to him receiving the Player-of-the-Year accolade last season. In fact, on the face of it, the 2018/19 version of Hernandez is an upgrade on last season’s version.
So far this season, Pablo has scored six goals and laid on five assists. Those 11 goal contributions have come in just 11 appearances totalling 908 minutes of football. Laid out plainly, Pablo Hernandez contributes to a goal (either scored/assisted) every 82 minutes on the pitch for Leeds United.
Whichever way you wish to look at it, there is little doubt that los españoles gobiernan a Leeds United.
