Leeds United striker set to return to Elland Road after dismal loan spell

After failing to impress on loan in the Turkish Super Lig with Trabzonspor, Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban is set to return to Elland Road, according to Fanatik.

Caleb Ekuban looks set for an early to Elland Road, after a dismal start to life in Turkey with Trabzonspor whilst on loan from Leeds United.

The Turkish side do have the option to exercise a permanent deal once the loan spell has come to an end, but they look set to pass up the opportunity to bring in the 24-year-old. His single goal in seven games has not impressed the Super Lig side, and they do not see a future for him in Turkey.

After scoring on his debut in a 4-0 victory over giants Galatasaray, fans could be forgiven for thinking that Ekuban was well on his way to a successful loan spell abroad. However, six appearances later, that debut goal remains his only goal in his time in Turkey.

Upon the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United, Ekuban’s future was up in the air. The striker wasn’t given a shirt number for the new Championship season after failing to impress both last season and in pre-season leading up to the 2018/19 campaign.

After arriving at the start of the 2017/18 season, Ekuban has failed to make an impact at Elland Road. In 21 appearances in all competitions last season, the Italy-born striker scored just twice. Once in the Championship and once in the EFL Cup, falling down the pecking order at United.
