The international break has come as somewhat of a blessing for Blackburn Rovers, providing them with time to watch their injury list get shorter and shorter as key players return to fitness.
While the international break means no Championship football, Blackburn Rovers fans will be grateful to see several key names return to the match day squad after missing games through injury in the passing weeks.
Earlier this month, Blackburn than eight first team players unavailable for selection through injury, leaving manager Tony Mowbray with endless selection headaches. However, key players Charlie Mulgrew, Derrick Williams and Harrison Reed have all recovered over the break, and are in line for this weekend’s game against Preston North End.
After a long spell on the touchline, Mowbray also revealed that right back Ryan Nyambe is also in line to make his return to the first team on Saturday.
“Nyambe’s re-emergence on the scene, we have a decision to make at right back, and if we do put Nyambe back in then what do we do with Bennett?,” Mowbray explained to the Lancashire Telegraph.
“We have decisions to make. But they are good decisions for me.
“We will make them and be mindful we have three games this week and try and be as strong as we can.”
Mowbray went on to add that a few players are still yet to return to full training, however. Attacker Dominic Samuel and midfielders Jacob Davenport and Ben Gladwin all sat out once again as they continue their recoveries.
“We had a good turnout in training today.
“There have been two or three that didn’t train in the early part of the week but have trained at the end of the week.
“They have been working really hard, looked really sharp, there was some rest but we have built up the intensity this week and we’re looking forward to the weekend.”
