“I feel like I’m wanted here” – Leeds United’s Izzy Brown can’t wait to get started with return near

Chelsea youngster Izzy Brown joined Leeds United on loan back in August, whilst still recovering from a ruptured cruciate ligament injury he picked up whilst on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion in their 2-1 FA Cup win over rivals Crystal Palace.

However, his return to first team football at Elland Road is edging closer and closer, and the attacker can’t wait to play in front of the Leeds United crowd.

The 21-year-old made his return to football five days ago, playing 45 minutes of an Under-23s game between Leeds and Birmingham City on Friday. Brown will continue to return to full fitness with the Under-23s side, before hopefully making his debut for the first team.

“I played my first 45 the other day and have 90 minutes to play on Monday,” Brown told Leeds Live.

“After the 90 minutes on Monday I should be ready for selection. I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

“I did my ACL in January against Crystal Palace in a 50/50 (while playing on-loan for Brighton). I’d never felt any pain in my knee before until that day and then following a defect I had to have a second operation to clear it out – which not many people know. Since then, I’ve had no pain in my knee at all.”

With his return coming closer and closer, Chelsea loanee Brown is looking forward to playing under manager Marcelo Bielsa. The attacker is a big fan of the Argentine’s style of play, and can not wait to get involved.

“They play football how football should be played at a high intensity with them winning the ball back in the opposing half.

“They fight for each other and create a lot of chances – it is a dream for an attacking player.”

Brown went on to discuss how the move to Elland Road came about, with parent club Chelsea initially keen to keep Brown under their wing to help him back to fitness.

“In June, Chelsea said I wouldn’t be able to go on loan as I wouldn’t be ready for the start of the season but some teams still showed interest.

“Leeds were the ones who showed the most interest and they said we can wait and I could do my rehab up here.

“It is great that they showed so much belief in me. When I’m here I feel important to the team and the fans around the city. When I go out into the city fans are always asking when I’ll be back. I feel like I’m wanted here.”
