Sheffield United could lose youngster in January with parent club considering recall

Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn joined Championship side Sheffield United on loan in the summer transfer window, but has failed to make an impact at Bramall Lane and could return to Anfield in January.

Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn’s first team chances at Bramall Lane have been limited in the early stages of this season, and his parent club are considering recalling him, according to website goal.com.

Young playmaker Woodburn’s only start came in the EFL Cup, where Sheffield United lost on penalties to Championship rivals Hull City.

Aware of the youngster’s frustrations, Liverpool brought the youngster back to play in an Under-23s game against Derby County – his first dose of football in nearly three months. It is understood that the youngster’s work rate or attitude is not the problem, but the impressive form of his players mean that Woodburn hasn’t been able to make his way into the starting eleven.

Since joining The Blades, Woodburn made six substitute appearances in his first eight games, but has only made one substitute appearances in his last eight games and has been completely omitted from the first team squad on six occasions so far.

It is understood that Liverpool do have a recall option available for Woodburn, but talks regarding a possible return for the youngster are yet to have started.

Liverpool have been in this position before with winger Ryan Kent, who spent the first half of last season with Bundesliga side Freiburg but failed to make his way into the first team picture in Germany.
