“Proper away day”- Barnsley fans react to their 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley

Barnsley have bolstered their promotion push in League One with a 2-0 win away at Accrington Stanley yesterday.

The Tykes made the trip to the Wham Stadium after good spirits after winning their previous three games and Daniel Stendel’s side did not disappoint their large travelling support.

It was only Accrington’s second home defeat of 2018 in front of a record attendance at their stadium of 4,801.

After a scrappy opening half an hour, Barnsley opened the scoring through Fulham loanee Cauley Woodrow. The striker latched onto a Kieffer Moore backheel and slotted the ball home past Connor Ripley in the Stanley goal.

Stendel will have feared the worst when his left-back Zeki Fryers was sent off on 64 minutes after a foul on Callum Johnson. However, his side dug in deep with a man less and sealed the win in added on time through Moore.

Barnsley’s top scorer made it 10 for the season when he capitalised on Ripley’s parry from a Brad Potts shot.

The Tykes have now won their past four games and have risen to third in League One. They are two points off Sunderland in second and four off Portsmouth at the top. Accrington have fallen to tenth.
