Premier League duo Jermain Defoe and Shane Long are on Sheffield United’s radar, according to journalist Alan Biggs on Twitter.
The Blades are keen to bring in a striker in the January transfer market and their manager Chris Wilder has identified the two experienced forwards as potential options.
Jermain Defoe, who is 36 years-old, has played just twice in the league for AFC Bournemouth this season and could be allowed to leave them in a couple of months’ time.
He has been one of the most prolific strikers in the country over the past decade or so. He has 273 goals in his career to date and has also racked up 57 caps for England. Could he be the man to fire Sheffield United into the Premier League?
Southampton’s Shane Long is another target for the Championship side. The hard-working forward has managed just a combined five goals in the past two seasons in the Premier League for the Saints but would be a handful in the second tier.
Long has been promoted from the Championship before with Reading in 2006. The Republic of Ireland international has also had spells at Cork City, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City so far in his career.
Sheffield United have started the season very well and have their fans dreaming of the top flight. They are needing another striker to help bolster their promotion push and one of either Jermain Defoe or Shane Long would be ideal for them. However, they will have to fork out big bucks to land them.
